Announce your presence in the city at the office called 'Punto Città"

Within 8 days of your arrival in Lugano, you must register at the (ufficio controllo abitanti) ‘resident registration’ office.

Apply for residence permit

All foreigners who intend to stay in Switzerland for a period of more than three months must apply for a residence permit.

Register for health insurance or apply for an exemption

Everyone resident in Switzerland is obliged to take out health insurance within three months of arrival. Students, in specific cases, can apply for exemption to the health insurance fund.
