Whether it’s an exhibition, workshop, hackathon, meet-up, or public lecture: Lugano Living Lab, the urban lab of the City of Lugano, is available to assist students and researchers in identifying the ideal solution for organizing an event related to the world of research. Note: Lugano Living Lab does not provide financial support for events or incentives for conducting studies.
City facilities available​
The Congress Palace consists of a large amphitheater hall with a fixed stage, 6 rooms with a modular structure, and spacious atriums that offer a wide exhibition area. The Congress Palace is also connected through an internal passage to Villa Ciani, whose evocative rooms are suitable for organizing exhibitions and conferences.

La Muggina, a historic sixteenth-century building and protected cultural asset, completely renovated in 2020, consists of three small but functional rooms for conducting training with a maximum number of 12 participants. The entrance driveway in red gravel is surrounded by flower beds and trees. On the ground floor, one room is equipped with 13 PCs for trainings where computer equipment is necessary, and there’s a small room usable for meetings. On the first floor, there are two additional training rooms. All rooms are equipped with screens for projections, whiteboards, flip charts, and free Wi-Fi. On the second floor, there’s a small room available for coffee breaks during training sessions, as well as for a lunch break for those who cannot return home during training days. The external park can be used for coffee breaks or lunch, but also for outdoor training moments. The building is located in Viganello, at Via Lido 3, and offers free parking possibilities at the back for about ten vehicles. The rooms of La Muggina can be rented individually and for a full day or half day.

Asilo Ciani was established as a facility to host events and conferences. Located in the city center of Lugano, on Viale Cattaneo, the historic building offers about ten rooms ranging between 30 and 60 square meters, equipped with WiFi, ideal for small meetings, exhibitions, or conferences.

Villa Ciani is an austere cubic construction in neoclassical-Palladian style, with an octagonal belvedere and a cylindrical turret on the roof’s peak. Built between 1840 and 1843, Villa Ciani is nestled in a vast 63,000 square meter park overlooking the lake, filled with numerous tall trees and exquisite decorative furnishings. Villa Ciani spans three floors ranging from 385 to 500 square meters, accessible via elevator, comprising a total of 30 rooms of various sizes. The Villa is also connected to the main atrium of the Congress Palace through an internal passage.

The Capannone di Pregassona is an ideal structure for meetings and reunions, conferences, shows and concerts, small congresses, and events of every type. It consists of a large space of 450 square meters covered by WiFi. It is equipped with a stage with sound system, a kitchen, an internal bar, and an external bar. It is furnished with 320 chairs and 45 tables with corresponding benches, able to accommodate up to 320 seated people and 350 standing.

The City of Lugano offers its services for the promotion of events taking place in the Lugano area. Report your event or signal one of your interest: the events will be published on the Lugano Eventi platform and on the Lugano Eventi app of the City of Lugano dedicated to Events. The publication is free!

The services of the City of Lugano offer their support and consultation for free to the citizens and students of Lugano.
All events taking place on public land in the City are coordinated by the Event Authorization Office of the Division of Events and Congresses, which is responsible for managing requests for contributions related to an event, provides assistance to organizers, and acts as a liaison between the Services and the Municipality.
Anyone interested in organizing an event on public land in Lugano must submit a request for authorization, called Event Announcement Application, 6 months in advance. This will be reviewed by the Division of Events and Congresses with the involved Services and finally by the Municipality.
Since the authorization procedure varies in duration, it is advised to submit the application no later than 6 months before the event. If these deadlines are not met, the completion of the procedure in a timely manner is not guaranteed.
